A PRIMITIVE TACTILE EXPERIENCE: CLAY - MY IDEAL MEDIUM FOR EXPRESSION
I was born and raised on a sheep farm in New Zealand. My pottery styles to this day continue to be influenced by the beauty of nature that surrounded and inspired me during my youth.
After training as a New Zealand Registered General and Maternity Nurse, then specializing in the field of Trauma I travelled extensively for some 8 years. During this time, in different countries, I sought out workshops, symposiums, and galleries that involved various types of pottery and firing techniques.
After settling in Canada and while raising four amazing children (and many animals on a 10 acre farm) I built a 25cu ft gas kiln, a Raku and an electric kiln. During those early years I continued with lessons and workshops and became a hobby/production potter. I have worked with Raku, Stoneware, and Porcelain clays but I prefer the wonderful colours glazes on pure white porcelain produce.
My work has been exhibited and sold through galleries and stores in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Belonging to the Fort Langley Artist Group provides me with inspiration and enthusiasm to continue to explore my passion of clay.

PROCESS EXAMPLE: The poppy platter shown below measures 15 inches across by 1.25 inches high. It is made of a porcelain clay from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Poppies are painted onto the leather-hard platter and then, once trimmed and dry, fired in an electric kiln to 1728 F. Following waxing of the base platter it is then dipped in a clear glaze and fired to 2345 F in a gas fired reduction kiln. Price: $325.00
